It was wonderful having an opportunity to meet speakers and attendees, some of whom I had met on previous cruises. It was also great being able to help those who sought my assistance. I love speaking and teaching. In fact, the cruise helped me confirm in my own mind that I am pursuing the right direction for my future. When I had my major life change four months ago (that is, when I left regular employment), I had to think about what I was going to do with my life, and, of course, how I was going to generate an income. I thought of undertaking paid research for people, but I wanted to pursue my vision.
My vision is to continue bringing history to life for you all through writing my "non-fiction thrillers" so as to help you learn about our fascinating history and so that the knowledge you gain could become a part of your lives (and I have great fun doing it as well, of course). We as a society (and our politicians) would not repeat the mistakes of the past if we learnt from our past!! And I want to help and inspire you all by communicating my own knowledge of history and genealogy and researching and writing. I know so much and most of it sits in my head, of little use to anybody. But if I start giving more seminars and workshops and writing more "how to" books, then I can help you all to become more knowledgeable and confident, which makes you happy and successful in your endeavours, which makes me happy (particularly if you tell me via email or website that my talk/assistance was helpful or, as often is the case, inspirational).
To that end, I am attending workshops and a conference on how to become a better speaker (let me tell you that the Unlock the Past cruise was incredibly cheap compared to the cost I have to pay for this conference - that is, $1350 for four days and it DOESN'T include accommodation, plane flights or food!). I will incorporate what I am learning into the talks I give.
So stay tuned.
